A Busy Fall Day and more Kitty Kats

What a gloriously beautiful fall day!
Sushine and just a wee nip to the air.

I was up bright and early and got the day started with a bit of laundry.
Drank some coffee and did some knitting.

Then it was time to get that yard work started.
I got the veg patch de constructed only leaving thyme, rosemary, and some parsley.
I plan on making salts and jellies with the thyme and rosemary.
The parsley I will leave until it gets ravaged by that first frost.

I harvested my onions.

I still can't believe I planted 50 or 60 onions and what is my reward 7!!!!!!
Shake fist at those damn squirrels!

After lunch I did some more fall sprucing up.

And for the past 3 or 4 days this little fella has been hanging around.

Is he a stray? Is he lost? Has he run away from home?
I don't know but today I put some crunchies out and he devoured them!
What to do? What to do?

And then this afternoon this guy showed up!

My heart leaped from my chest when I saw him.
At first glance he looks like my girl Addy.
He is a bit more chunky.
Probably heard of the free eats!

After a nice hot shower.
I popped a wee roast in the oven with lots of veggies.
Then was able to sit on the deck with a glass of wine and flip thru my magazine

A Wee bit of Sweetness to end a Wednesday

Holly and Dan attended his sister's wedding.
Of course Riley and Miles were the best dressed there!

Kitty Kats and Fall Decorating

I have been battling some sort of weird flu like incapacity.
Major headches and extremely tired.
After a week I am feeling better altho after a few hours of "doing" I am ready for a nap.
So as you can imagine my "doing" list is getting longer and longer.
HB is in Chicago the rest of the week so my plan is to get caught up on my own time.

Looks like we have a couple new visitors to the garden

I am hoping to erect an enclosure of some sort for the feral feeding station this winter.
HB is not as excited about my plans but I know if I ask him he will help me (grudgingly) but he will!
Deb at Just Cats has posted a link to making winter homes for ferals too.
I am hoping to try a couple of them too.

I have a special place in my heart for ferals.
My girls are rescued ferals from 12 years ago.
I found them meowing under my back shed.
They were about 5 weeks old.
I think Mama abandoned them or was killed because it took me close to 3 weeks to finally catch these guys. I saw no evidence of mama during that time.

My girls are starting to get into their fall activities .
Sleeping in the sun will be top priority.

And a few fall decs to end !

I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.

Note Card Party

Yummy pumpkin spice candle

Black eyed daisies waiting for a goldfinch or two

 Cedar waxwings passing through

A few bottles of herbal vinegars!

 What a fantastic idea!
I think I will be making a few notecards to send my friends and family
to welcome the fall season.
Check Vee for her note card party.

Happy Weekend

HB and his buds are canoeing in Algonquin Park this weekend.
They left bright and early Thursday morning and I don't expect him back til late Sunday night..
So far I have cleaned the house and made Chicken pot pie, lasagna, chili, beef stew, and turkey burgers for the freezer.
I'm not sure I have mentioned this but Siobhan is getting married November 3rd.
I leave October 10th for Alberta to help Holly bring those sweet kiddlys to Ontario for 3 WEEKS!!!!!
So I wanted to have some premade meals tucked away.
It rained pretty much all day Friday so a perfect chance to get those meals done.

So here we are on a Saturday morning and the sun is shining and it is a glorious morning.

Lots to do today too but who couldn't enjoy breakfast with the chickadees ?

And look at Miles and Riley GO!!

Flower? in the Garden

While cleaning up the kitchen from dinner last night
HB calls "Just look at the path from the shed".
One of the biggest skunks I have seen in the yard!

HB has been live trapping some of our squirrel population and
taking them a few miles down the road to enjoy a more serene country life.
The bait of choice whole wheat bread with organic peanut butter.
So it seems some of the PB has leaked onto the pathway.
Tempting to skunks too!
Thank goodness the trap had been put away by this time!!!!!!!!!

We occasionally smell these fellas and see the the holes they leave in the grass looking for grubs
but haven't really seen them in the fur this summer.
So whoop there he is.

Cardinal in da Hood

A gloriously day filled wth rain yesterday.
What a welcome change in temperature too.
I have enjoyed the wonderful summer we have had here in Ontario
altho we could have used more rain.
But I do look forward to cooler nights and changing the inside decor to those comforting fall colours.
Look what the rain brought to our back yard

Cardinals have been very few over the past years in our yard.
So to see this youngster hanging in our "hood" for a day was great.
I just hope he makes it to his winter home.

Today(Sunday) it  feels like a typical late summer day.
Sunny but cooler temps.
Making white bean chili for supper tonight with polenta.
Guess it is time to break open the fall and winter recipe box!

Tomatoes and Finally

So yesterday was my cleaning day but for some reason I did not get any "labour" done.
Today I decided to get it all done.
First of all I wanted to decide what to have for supper.

Hmmmm got lots of tomatoes!
How about a nice fresh tomatoe basil sauce with vermicelli.
OK!!

Well I went to the garden and it seems like all of a sudden the romas have burst forth.
So with a trug full of tomatoes inside I went.
My morning was spent skinning and simmering.

In the end I ended up with four 500 ml jars of tomatoes and enough for a lovely fresh tomatoe sauce for supper.
I didn't add any seasoning to them except a few sprigs of basil and 2 garlic cloves to each jar.

I managed to get most of my cleaning done too ---- BONUS!!
I even got to take more pics of the garden before--

IT RAINED!!!!!!!
YAY!!! We haven"t had a good rain for about 3 months.
Gardens and grass are pretty parched.
There has even been talk of a water ban in our area.
Our mayor has given credit to residents of our town for doing our part in conserving water so no ban as yet.
